Ingebjørg Støyva

Artist Statement

"When I paint I can tell stories beyond the constraints of words. I can confront the vulnerability we possess as human beings. The revealing face, a destiny, a fragment of a human mind - this is what fascinates me. I paint towards a recollection, a recollection I can't always account for."

Biography

Ingebjørg Støyva (b. 1978) is an established visual artist living and working in Hemnes just outside Oslo. Støyva debuted as an artist at Galleri Ramfjord in Oslo in 2014 and has subsequently participated in a number of sold out exhibitions at the gallery. During her last solo exhibition in February 2019, a queue was formed outside the gallery eight hours before the opening. Støyva has also exhibited her works at Art Copenhagen (2015), Scope Basel (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021), AAF Stockholm (2016, 2017 and 2018), Vertical Gallery in Chicago (2018), Scope Miami (2018) and AAF New York (2019).

Ingebjørg Støyva is blessed with an artistic ability to communicate human moods and feelings through skilled composition, technique and a unique colour language. Her motifs invite us to associate with something enigmatic that we may have once known, but have forgotten about. We meet expressive faces that tell us something meaningful, something about experiences, and something soulful that cannot be captured, only felt. The images invite the viewer to wonder and feel. She is a narrative artist. There is always a story attached to her motifs. We experience what happened just prior to the moment, and what might happen afterwards. Støyva is represented by Galleri Ramfjord, Oslo, Norway.
