Artist Statement
My work tells stories – haunting, surrealistic stories—that come from dreams and the subconscious. The characters in my artwork are often on the brink of some magical transformation, or encounter an animal or being from another world, or sense some invisible threat. … I love to create mysterious allegorical tales: they portray the vulnerabilities that underlie our lives and the strength we can call up when we face those hidden secrets.
Biography
Angelique Benicio is an award-winning painter, sculptor and performance installation artist. She spent her childhood in three countries – the United States, France and Brazil. Angelique before attending the San Jose University in California.
Ms. Benicio is also an accomplished children’s illustrator, cinema set décor designer and special effects artist. She is a prolific painter and has exhibited internationally with her most recent shows being held in California.
